Lady Lions Volleyball Advances to the State Championship

For the first time in school history a team from Concord Christian will play in the TSSAA Championship!

On the heels of an impressive Regional Tournament that boasted three teams with 30 plus wins the Lions came to Murfreesboro and the TSSAA State Championship with high hopes and opened with an impressive 25-8 stomping of Harding Academy in set one of their first game. However, it is never easy in the Final Four and Harding playing steady and powerful volleyball kept the Lions off the net the rest of the afternoon and despite several hard fought sets took the first game 3-1 and sent the Lions off to fight their way back. And that is what they did!

The Lions would have to come back in the afternoon and win to advance to today's semi final round.  With an impressive shut out of St. George the ladies played nearly flawless volleyball to sweep their way into today's semi final.

The Lady Lions had lost to #1 in the state and #1 seed in the TSSAA state tournament, Webb Knoxville, in the Regionals and Harding Academy suffered the same fate in the winner's bracket here at the Final Four.  Now the two would pair off in this afternoon's semi final to see who would get another shot at Webb in the state finals tomorrow morning  at Middle Tennessee State University.  It was a test of who would want it more.

How would the Lions adjust to the powerful front line of Harding that had methodically beaten them the day before? Key adjustments from District Coach of the Year Carmen Hochever and a complete effort, tremendous defense against the powerful Harding squad and great net play from not only the key All Region players Sydney Sherrill and Annabelle Sulish but also from Elizabeth Dawson and Mikayla Profeta.  It would take them all, however, and all is what CCS got from it's "Women of Will."

Harding came out and applied the same pressure it had the day before and the Lions dropped a hard fought opening set  22-25 and it seemed that Harding may be too much.  But the LIons from CCS had faced some of the best competition in the country in racking up 36 wins and they were not about to go away.

Applying great pressure at the net the Lions kept Harding off balance the rest of the afternoon. Precision serves, several kills, outstanding digs to fend off the power of Harding and there was no stopping CCS.  Although Harding rallied in all three of the next sets the Lions seemed in complete control and responded to each run with a big stop or kill.  The Lions followed a 25-20 set with a 25-11 drubbing in set three that sucked all the life out of Harding Academy.   The final set went back and forth but the Lions had taken the court and did not give it back finishing off Harding in a 25-21 final set.  The Lions of CCS were off to the SHIP!  History had been made!

The Lions will take on #1 seed Webb at 10 AM tomorrow at MTSU!   Come and support your Lions. Trust me it is worth the trip!!

The afternoon belonged to these Lions who had prepared for years for this moment.  You come out and support them as they play this historic match!
