CCS Volleyball Coach MacKenzie Hughes Selected to Sullivan East Hall of Fame!

CCS Coaches Spotlight:

We are proud to highlight MacKenzie Hughes to honor her in being elected to the  2018 Sullivan East High School Hall of Fame.   MacKenzie teaches second grade here at CCS and is our Varsity Middle School Volleyball coach.

MacKenzie picked up volleyball at a young age after watching her older cousin play and quickly distinguished herself as a rising star.  Playing middle school and travel ball she went right to the varsity program upon entering high school.  She led her team to the state tournament for the first time in 10 years gathering All District, and All Region honors as well as being the Conference MVP  and the District MVP her senior year.

Attending East Tennessee State University with plans on going into nursing she turned to the idea of education and coaching.  After graduation MacKenzie followed her family to the Knoxville area where coming to Concord Christian she calls a “God thing.”   Falling in love with second graders at ETSU she was looking for any teaching position when Concord called.

Once I met Leigh Ledet (CCS Elementary Principal) it was over.  I knew where I was supposed to be.  I don't ever want to leave.   MacKenzie Hughes

MacKenize became Miss Hughes and Coach Hughes for the Lions.

Carmen Hochevar, Head Volleyball Coach for CCS, jumped on Coach Hughes for the high school staff.  She served two years as the JV coach for the high school program before taking on the varsity middle school team this year.

Miss Hughes loves her second grade class and coaching here at CCS and she continues her love for working with young people at Shoreline Church where she is involved with the Middle School Student Ministry.

In her spare time she still loves to play volleyball, is training for the ½ marathon, loves hiking and reading.

Her favorite passage of scripture is Romans 3: 3-5

Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope,  and hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.

We are so blessed to have such a great coaching staff and MacKenzie Hughes will be a big part of CCS athletics for a long time.   We congratulate her on being selected for her High School Hall of Fame.  We know she was selected not only because of her prowess on the court but her leadership and character off the court.   Thank you Coach Hughes for being a LION!
